Hackney Council careers
Join the team transforming one of London's most ambitious property and building services portfolios.
Welcome Message
We're delighted that you're exploring these opportunities to join Hackney's housing team. As you might expect, there is plenty of important work ahead. But as you read through this careers site and gain a clearer understanding of where we are, we hope you'll also recognise the strong foundations already in place. We are a large, multi-skilled directorate delivering comprehensive property and housing services across a diverse portfolio of around 30,000 homes. Housing continues to sit at the heart of the Council's ambition for a fairer, safer, and more sustainable Hackney.
These senior posts will play a pivotal role in driving further improvements to our services, and in ensuring the quality and safety of our homes. We are modernising our housing and property functions so we can deliver effective, community-focused services. Our transformation programme is central to this modernisation, and these roles will be instrumental in enabling our Housing Property Services teams to deliver our strategic priorities.
We welcome enthusiasm, a collaborative approach, and a commitment to finding solutions. For these roles, you will need a strong senior-level track record in housing. You will already understand how the Social Housing Regulation Act and the recent wave of building safety legislation provide a clear framework for continuing to improve and integrate the service experience for our residents. Strengthened consumer regulation will also support our approach to resident engagement — guided by our newly launched strategy — to ensure residents have meaningful influence over how services are designed, delivered, and held accountable.
While safe, stable, and affordable homes are still out of reach for many, we remain committed to playing a vital role in tackling the housing crisis in Hackney.
We are fortunate to have strong Member support for an efficient and responsive in-house housing directorate that puts residents at the centre of everything we do. Our Mayor, Caroline Woodley, and Cabinet Lead for Housing Services and Resident Participation, Cllr Guy Nicholson, are closely engaged in our work and bring valuable insight and challenge. In these roles, you will have regular access to senior officers and Members. We work in a culture of open dialogue, where challenge and opportunity are explored constructively — reflecting just how influential and impactful these positions will be. Not only within the housing directorate, but across the whole Council, given housing's critical role in building an inclusive local economy.
